Discover the Norbide Lapping Compound

Formulated with ultra-hard carbide abrasive—often referred to as “black diamond”—Norbide Lapping Compound delivers extreme cutting capability for the most demanding applications. With hardness approaching that of diamond, it is designed for situations where material removal is difficult, surfaces are heavily worn, or standard compounds fail to perform.

Norbide is not a general-purpose compound—it’s a specialized solution for extreme conditions.

What Makes Norbide Different

  • Ultra-Hard Carbide Abrasive Hardness approaching diamond, enabling cutting performance beyond silicon carbide and aluminum oxide
  • Extreme Material Removal Capability Designed for removing stubborn buildup, hardened surfaces, and difficult materials
  • High Durability Maintains cutting performance under heavy load and repeated use
  • Last-Resort Performance Ideal when other abrasives are ineffective or too slow

Applications

  • Industrial restoration and repair
  • Severely worn valves, seats, and sealing surfaces
  • Heavy equipment, diesel, and oil & gas components
  • High-hardness alloys and difficult-to-machine materials
  • Any application where standard abrasives fail

Finish Characteristics

Due to its extreme hardness and cutting action, Norbide produces a coarse, matte finish. It is typically used as a first-stage compound, followed by finer abrasives to achieve the desired surface finish.

When to Choose Norbide

  • You need maximum cutting power available
  • Surfaces are heavily damaged, hardened, or resistant
  • Other abrasives are too slow or ineffective
  • Speed and effectiveness outweigh finish quality

Performance Advantages

  • Cuts through hardened materials and severe surface conditions
  • Effective on high-carbon, high-heat, and heavily worn components
  • Reduces time required for difficult restoration jobs
  • Maintains performance where standard compounds break down

Where It Fits in the Process

Norbide is used at the very beginning of the process:

1. Extreme removal (Norbide)

2. Heavy cut (GSC / Type 1)

3. Controlled refinement (38 Series / AC280)

4. Fine finishing (GK / Linde / Rouge)

Important Considerations

  • Not intended for fine finishing or cosmetic applications
  • Should be followed with finer compounds for surface refinement
  • Best suited for experienced operators and controlled processes
